Randy grew up in a small town in western Maryland. He left for the Air Force four days out of high school at seventeen and spent time in Texas and Mississippi before receiving orders to Alaska. Stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage he instantly fell in love with snowboarding. He received an honorable discharge at the age of twenty-one and instead of heading back East, Randy decided to remain in the state he grew to love. He attended the University of Alaska and got a degree in geology, taking classes in the evening to allow him to chase his passion for snowboarding during the day. During this time, Randy began to film his adventures and edit them on a PC. After submitting them to a local snowboard show called Northern Boarder they received airplay for months. He made his first movie titled Time Invested in 2001. The positive response to that encouraged Randy to make a second movie, The Republic. In 2003 Randy joined with Trilogy Art (a Tahoe based snowboard company)æas a cinematographer. At around this time Randy met
up with Chase Landmesser and Erik Gabrielson to help form Binge.. Together they began
filming almost exclusively as a trio and developing the techniques necessary to sled and
snowboard in Alaska.
