Erik began snowboarding in junior high school and soon quit everything else except school to focus on it. Erik began filming when he began riding, and actually is still in possession of a lot of footage from middle school and high school. His capture of avalanches in Alaska during this time have been televised nationally on Real TV. After high school Erik went to the University of Utah to pursue a mechanical engineering degree and further his snowboarding and filming. He has held amateur sponsorships from Spy Optics, Zumiez, Poor Boyz Wax, Endeavor Snowboards to name a few. After graduating from the University of Utah in 2004 he gave up the glory of resort riding and sponsorship to pursue the untracked, unexplored mountains of Alaska, where he learned to ride. Erik works as a mechanical engineer on projects on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, which he considers a dream job becasue of the schedule it affords him. He puts in 12-14 hour days seven days a week from May-October in order to ride all winter long. He
travels in search of waves from the time he gets out of work in AK until the snow flies.
He most recently went on an exploratory surf trip to Nicaragua with fellow binge.er,
Josh Morales.
